Fish Stocking, it’s more than just fishing

Our association purchased 2005 8″ catfish that were recently released.

Current account information:

$     beginning balance
$     cost of fish
$     current balance

If you are new to the Fish and Royer Lakes Association it is important to know that the stocking of Catfish and Walleye has more than just recreational purposes.  The fishery biologists report that Walleye and Channel Catfish together is the best
possible combination for Bluegill control. The state uses this approach on many lakes throughout Indiana. We are
seeing the results with bigger panfish being caught in our lakes.

So, if you aren’t a member join and get involved!

  1. I moved to the lake in Nov 2016 and joined the lake assoc. in 2017. I enjoy kayaking on the two lakes. I don’t fish but enjoy the wildlife here. I have noticed that Fish lake for what ever reason doesn’t have a lot of garbage in the water except by the public access which I try to clean up as I go around the lakes. However Royer has tires in the shallow water along the east shore. I have heard talk about clean up on the lakes and would of liked to help but never saw a posting for a day on your web site.

    I also talk with the anglers who say the fishing isn’t like it used to be. The lakes used to be great for fishing perch, bass, bluegill and crappie.
    I understand there is a shad problem and I do see schools of them.

    My question is why are we not cleaning the lake more and why are we not stocking the right fish to eliminate the Shad?
    I read your reports from the DNR and what they suggest doesn’t seem to be happening here.
    I have not joined the lake assoc. this year so far and I did support the fish stocking. I never heard what was added to the lake so maybe you did put a beneficial fish in. Also I haven’t seen the water quality report for last year.

    I would like to know the date for your annual meeting I will pay my dues then.

    1. Hi Sherri, sorry about the delay in a response but, there have been some personnel changes in the board. The new members are resolved to aggressively address your concerns, as well as all other member’s concerns .
      We are having a pig roast on Sat Sept 22 beginning at 1PM. I encourage you to attend and meet the new board members, most of which you may already know.
      Please read more info about the pig roast in the post above.
      Thanks,

  2. It sure would be nice to see the funds go more towards WALLEYE then catfish. I’ve caught about 20 catfish and have yet to get a walleye!
    The last stocking was also catfish!
    Please more Walleye!
    Thanks
